The German Primate Centre (DPZ), Göttingen, is represented by the Clinical Neurobiology Laboratory Department of Reproductive Biology
Department of Veterinary Care & Primate Husbandry Primate Genetic Group
The DPZ is a non-profit pre-clinical research institute breeding and housing non-human primates to provide models for human diseases and to
facilitate development of vaccines. As the only institution of its kind, the DPZ, has a central role in German research and participates in many research networks on national and European levels.
The service function of the DPZ is to supply research institutions as well as its own research groups with primates. This is one of the reasons
the DPZ has breeding groups of several non-human primate species. They enable the DPZ to ensure a high standard of husbandry, health and genetic composition of its animals. The primate colonies of the
DPZ provide the basis for scientific and service functions under controlled laboratory conditions. They comprise about 1,200 monkeys representing 10 species of Old- and New World non-human primates
including marmosets.
Contribution to the project
development and exploitation of a non-human primate model for prenatal dexamethasone over- exposure,
provision of experimental facilities for European research groups,
supply of tissue and body fluid resources for further mechanistic experimentation,
establishment of an European non-human primate tissue bank (EPTB),
conduct longitudinal studies with the members of the EUPEAH consortium,
analysis of reproductive parameters and gonads,
analysis of brain function and structure,
in co-operation with Leiden University, generation of a marmoset-specific cDNA microarray (EUMAMA).
